Fw: UnbeLIEVable 401/FSJ/AMC week!

Good job !!!!!!!!! That is the way it is done ! There are a lot of couch potato snivelers who like to pretend they don't have a 390 or a 401 because they are almost nonexistent. 390's and 401's are still falling into my lap without having to look for them. I like to do what you did and ask about the good stuff when I am out of town but I seldom have the time. I have scored some good stuff that way. I have written articles about how to do it, where to ask, etc. Sometimes you wind up with a whole collection of good stuff including new parts. I even stumbled onto one at a garage sale !
Before anyone says that there is not enough for everyone, I want to say that might get rare if everyone all got off their duffs at the same time and really searched and bought, but we don't have to worry about that. You and I will have more than we can ever use.
Your AMC friend,
Gary Walker, owner of some old AMC stuff
& let the sparks fly

As you may know I travel a lot in my job and I try to
take a lot of back roads to see what's out there. I
finally got the pics of the really cool Pacer. Will
post them tomorrow, however, a fellow close by has
dibs at this point. It's worth seeing and it drives
well too!

So, taking a back road I stumbled across an 80 J10
with roll bar. It's a little rough, but since I will
likely be selling my excellent 86 soon this will be my
next temporary pickup... problems with the ignition
switch, but it runs. Has the lo-bak buckets and
decent cab, but NASTY bed.

Stopped by a shop and as I was leaving mentioned
penchant for AMC/Jeep stuff. Guy says he has a couple
of items. AN old man bought a bunch of stuff for his
CJ and died before it was installed... Accell Dual
Point, Torker, E-brk Carb, headers and a few other
items... unbelievable deal.

At another shop, asked about tired old Wag in the
driveway... running "Z" code... yep a 401! Guys says
he has another and made me a killer deal for both...
the other one did not have a 401 like he thought, but
did have a freshly rebuilt 360 with Ebrk everything,
MSD ignition and all kinds of great stuff. Kid built
it got into legal trouble had to dump it but the shop
owner is a Toyota guy, so he just let it sit!

He says... "I know another guy (less than a block
away) with some other big jeep stuff" Long story
short, fellow has:
76 401 Wag (runs great but loose steering wheel),
77 401 Golden Eagle SHortbed J10 (slow rollover,
rebuilt 401, ebrck stuff but bad oil pressure, rollbar
and grille guard... more later)
77 2 dr NT Chero 360 (runs, but bad timing cover)
76 Wag 360 (blown trans and TC)
74 J10 304 3 spd
72 J10 frame w/ 4.10 axles
3.54 D44 rear
Other various parts

I couldn't beLIEVE it! I knew I didn't have the money
for all of it, but I thought I might be able to work
something out for SOMEthing. Then he mentioned he
might be interested in trading it ALL for my 86
J10.... YIKES!

So, all of them but the 4.10 axled truck are TH400/QT.
Three of the QT's have low ranges, I think one with a
partime setup. Most will be parts vehicles, though
all have titles.

I need cash more than I need a bunch of vehicles, but
it's hard to pass this up! My only problem is that
there is little there worth much money but the 401's
and I don't want to just grab a collection of
worthless hulks for a couple of good engines. From my
experience, the QT axles are worthless to most people.
Need to think about this one.

Anyway, finished the day off with ANOTHER Pacer Wagon.
Not nearly as nice as the first, but complete, almost
rust free and drives GREAT! (65K.. rotted exhaust
caused back fire on reversion and an oil leak, but
otherwise pretty strong)

So, I need to go find some space to rent and start
bringing some stuff home!

May have some selling going on the next few weeks!

Have a great weekend,

Jesse
