I'm looking for another accelerator cable for my 69 Javelin. The one in the car is too short to reach the carb. I have one from a 74 that is the right length, but the fitting to the gas pedal is different. So far no luck finding anyone who can help.
I just went through this on my Hornet! 83 motor in the 70 chassis so there is no "right part" for me.
There are a lot of different AMC throttle cable lengths, and two different pedal ends (at least).
The old style has an eyelet that fits over a post on the pedal, retained by a cotter pin.
The new style has a crimped ferrule that retains a plastic tip that fits into a stamped keyhole in the pedal.
The new pedal assembly will NOT fit on the older chassis (I tried). Various dimensional errors, though they look awful similar.
My solution: I gave up :-) I used a Jeep part (1990's). The engine end fit fine. The housing was too long; I looped it like a roller coaster (270 degrees). The pedal end I cut off, fit the cable end through the cotter-pin hole in the pedal, and made a split bolt out of a 5/16" bolt, and with two washers and a nut, clamped it. This also let me set the overall length to be precisely correct (eg. take up the slack, carb at idle).
It's safe and reliable, though the looped cable is ugly. Until I find a "right" part (if ever) it will do. Likely, I'll find another too-long cable, and in my leisure time (uhuh) shorten the housing, and make a less-unsightly split bolt or find a crimpable eyelet.
