Just wondering on this..............
A locker acts differently than a Twin Grip, correct?
The locker is not as "streetable" as the Twin Grip?
Doesn't the locker sort-of ratchet instead of smoothly transfer power?
The locker is more noisy than a twin grip?

I've never had a locker or seen one but I am under the assumption that they
are intended for off road use, and I don't really know that for sure.
Can anyone help answer these questions?

The Detroit Locker is noisy on tight turns. I thought I'd broken the diff on my mates GT Falcon
when I heard it the first time. You are right about the ratchet concept. Its more like a dog clutch
between the axle halves. IIRC a spring engages the clutch, which has angled dogs, so they can push apart under high load. I don't know about the off road use, but they were options on Hi performance Ausie Fords for quite a while. The norm on saloon racing in those days, on Fords
in a 9". Good on dry roads in a straight line. Can be unpredictable in the wet if your pushing it a bit. For normal road use I stay with the Twin Grip, which is similar to the PosiTraction, I think.
