" A: Your original regulator is points type?
no, it's electronic. afaik moto alts always had electronic regs.
" Then likely one of the wires
" between the regulator and alt are broken (whichever one is the battery
" voltage) Had this happen on almost every Ford I've owned and many that had
" charging system trouble (it was one of the 2 middle wires of the flat 4 that
" always broke off) The electronic ones pop within minutes (sometimes seconds)
" when wired that way (or never even kick in), but the points type overcharge
" because they think battery voltage is too low.
the one wire i did trace - the yellow switched +12 - was hot at the
connector when it should be.
