A: The "I" wire is indeed ignition (on/off with the key) IIRC, they went FIBS (Field, Ignition, Battery, Stator) The "S" didn't need to be hooked up (it goes to the light in the dash), but the regulator needed to be grounded well and if you didn't have a ground wire from battery to body, it wouldn't charge with the lights or anything else on.
