Come to think of it I DID do some head swapping on my 343 Javelin one time. I had taken the OE heads off to do some work on them and needed to get the car rolling again. All I had was a set of 290 heads I had taken in trade from a 290 AMX that I had installed a set of big valve heads on. They were only on the car for a few weeks so I don't remember much other than it made a big difference in response and fuel mileage went up a few points (who cared back in 1969!!). I DO remember that I had problems getting the thing to shift at full throttle. I had modified the auto trans to shift at about 5000 RPM and those heads cut it back so much it had trouble getting there! Once it got to about 4500 I would have to lift the throttle a little so it would shift. Probably would have been perfect with a stock trans. I think MOST engines back then were really to much of a trade off of trying to be good at the bottom end AND top end too. Bruce Hevner
