Re: Cheap Cars for Teenager

These are for the kids who had everyting given to them! Obviously new cars to keep advertisers happy. Doesn't look like they considered used at all -- the very best choice for a teen driver! I always suggested to the young troops that they walk/bum rides for a year and save up enough to buy their first car outright. Then they can just get liability insurance. I had one ask me if I thought a dealer had given him a good price on a V-8 Camaro. My response was had he contacted his insurance company yet. He didn't believe his insurance (19 year old male, first car) would be nearly equal to the payments until he called 3-4 different companies and got roughly the same answer! I told him to call the same companies about a V-6 model to see the difference, and to have a four cylinder car to ask about at the same time that he didn't have to make payments on. Nothing makes them learn quicker! I bought both my girls decent 8-10 year old cars for their first. Bought out-right for $2500 or!
less. High miles but otherwise good condition with a few cosmetic "problems". But no collision insurance. At that price a year of driving before a major repair is good, and if it needs to much I won't mind disposing of it and getting another! I look for something I think I can get two good years out of though.
