Re: Cheap Cars for Teenager-----------What I believe

I'll keep the philosophic meanderings to a minimum but there are a couple of basic truths that I have always held to.

1. Everyone should have to be poor at some time in their life.
2. Everyone should have to be a waiter (waitress ) at some time in their life.
3. Everyone should have to drive a Volkswagen Beetle for at least a year. ( a Chevette makes a decent substitute and a Pacer may as well)

Humbling experiences to be sure.

From Forbes Magazine (on the web) today. Ten recommended cheap cars for
your teenager:

Chevrolet Malibu $19,825
Honda Accord coupe $16,810
Honda Civic coupe $14,175
Hundai Elantra $13,229
Mitsubishi Galant $$18,999
Nissan Frontier $15,500
Saturn Ion $11,995
Saturn Vue $17,630
Toyota Corrolla $14,420
Volkswagon Golf $16,605

Forbes apologized for naming the Saturns, but said they had to be objective.

My comments on the list.
I'm surprised to actually see the Chevy Malibu named although it probably
should be. I

I don't know whose budget they are considering when it comes to buying a car
for a teenager, but I sure don't/didn't have that kind of money to spend for
my kids' cars.

How about a reconditioned AMC Hornet (late seventies, no electronic
carburetor), standard transmission? Other suggestions?
