The best bet is actually the SR4 transmission 3.5:1 first and 1:1 top gear. Doesn't Armand just post that he had a 304 with SR4? Peter Marano Kenosha WI That would be correct Peter. I have a SR4 from a 1979 Spirit AMX. I also have the engine, but it is disassembled, although it is rebuildable with machine work, and new parts. The SR4 four speed needs a rebuild kit also. It could use new bearings synchros and seals/gaskets, but it is complete with shifter. Remember you fellas have been talking automatics with overdrive and lock up converters. The SR4 is a manual gearbox, for those of you not aware of this. This gearbox is very light (weight wise), and can handle a stock 290/304. I'm not sure how long it would last behind a built 290/304 or a larger displacement engine. Armand
