That's what I heard when I ran into a farmer from the mid-west a few months ago and struck up an interesting conversation about how most cars can run on 60% ethanol and 40% gasoline. Even more interesting I found from research is that coal can be converted to gasoline at competitive prices to imported oil. The government discovered two methods for making synthetic fuel after the invasion of Germany in 1945 and successfully duplicated both methods in small to moderate test runs until the 1960's when Congress killed the budget for development. The fuel was only used for government vehicles. --- Ralph Ausmann <ralph.ausmann@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > News from the Heartland's Ron Traver, Wheat Rancher > "Extra-Ordinaire" > and Dakota Conservative political agitator... > > The price for a gallon of ethanol in Sioux Falls > dropped 12 cents > overnight to $1.98, even cheaper than that at some > gas stations, and it > didn't take long for motorists to notice. > It's not a return to the good old days, but car > buffs are taking a > trip down memory lane at these prices.
