A couple of observations on some of the comments. I never meant that Alky could replace ALL gasoline. Just that it's an ALTERNATIVE to gasoline. One that can be used NOW in MANY vehicles. One of the web sites I visited claims 2 1/2 MILLION FFV (Flexible Fuel Vehicle) have been produced that can run on up to 85% Alky (E-85). The manufactures don't seem to be doing much promoting of this fact. I wonder why? It seems to my simple mind that ANYTHING we can do to reduce dependence on foreign crude is good. NON FFV vehicles can't tolerate more than about 10%. I realize that in the past oil was used to produce alky. But that's when oil was cheap. It's not so cheap anymore. Alternative sources of the energy needed to produce Alky exist, they should be used. Heck it's not a WHOLE lot of work to make a still and produce alky at home! If you have a source of Alky it's GREAT for HP motors! Put all the push (compression) you can in it and get the fuel system set up for it. GO !!! I like bio-diesel too! I think it's a great idea. In fact I had a couple of oil burning Rabbits I used for daily transportation. One of them got 50+ MPG Hwy!! I ran Mobil-1 in it and NEVER changed it. They normally use about a quart a thousand so I just added oil and changed the filter every 5k. Had 30k on it when I sold it and was running fine! Visit some of the Diesel Jetta web sites. These guys are getting CRAZY mileage with the late model Jettas. More than 60 MPG with just a few mods! I think the current "Highbred" vehicles are a scam. Look at the resources need to produce them, they don't save ANY petro once you figure it all up. I don't know where Hydro/Fuel Cells are going to end up. I know BMW has done a LOT of research on it and sez it's STILL years away. Google "making Ethanol" and do some reading,, you might be surprised!!
