A: But AC sucks more gas and who needs it more than 2 weeks of the year in the Pacific Northwest? Mine become air compressors for pumping up tires and running power tools. Some of the 6 cylinder hoses could be retained and used, but depending on the year & application (i.e. 70-74 Gremlin/Hornet) the compressor's orientation necessitated a few odd sizes and shapes of hoses. You should be able to use the 73 Javelin steering & AC components with no problems. It will all bolt up to the engine and chassis with no issues. One thing to watch, though, is if the compressor is mounted in an upright position that it clears the hood when the hood is closed. This is the reason that some cars had the compressor mounted on its side. There's nothing "nuts" about wanting AC on the car. One of my pet peeves is when someone takes a car with a perfectly functional AC and either disables or removes it simply because "I don't need/use it". AC is a great thing to have any time of year because it helps the windshield defogger perform more efficiently even in cooler, damper weather. Out of the many AMCs I've owned over the years, only 1 (67 Rebel 770 hardtop) didn't come equipped with factory AC. Even all the parts cars I've had were equipped with AC.
