yup.  i finally concluded that it was cheaper for kaiser to make the
adapter than stock two trannies.  afaik the first year or two of amc
engines were also adapted.

the nailhead also had a very deep flywheel pocket on the block, making
the th400 case very flat on the bell.  that gives more scope for
adaptation.
