I have a T-4 laying on the Garage floor I can measure. I believe they are the same length across the board for normal Slip yoke type car trans, Camaro, Mustang, S-10 T-5s. As a lot of truch guys talk about installing the S-10 tailhousings on the different trans to move the shifter to the far forward position. AMC and Chevette is mid position, Then Ford close to rear, last Camaro is almost completely rearward. Astro Van uses and strange relocated shifter mechanism. I've never seen one assembled just on breakdown sheets, looks strange. I believe the Ford based trans is the way to go, then add the S-10 housing if needed to get the shifter forward. The camaro case and output are a waste. The bell pattern is different and the mount flange is at something like a 10* angle. Making it difficult to use. AMC T-5 is hard to find. It seems that the shifter location of an AMC T-5 fits perfiect in the Ford Tiger chassis too!. I'd use the Ford trans if starting from scratch, but I don't want to redo the speedo and hole in the floor!
