Subject: Back to the T-5

I've just agreed to purchase a complete set of Non World class gears and
cluster from a 80's Camaro. This will allow me to build the close ration
trans I want. I already have a set of mainshaft, first, second, third and fifth
gears and synchros coming.
I bought the first set for $45 including shipping from Ebay. Figuring I'd
buy the cluster later.
Well this second set is a little costlier.
It includes all gears, a Brand new OE 83-84 Mustang Cluster, a Camaro fine
spline input. For $175.
Now the problem is the Camaro input is 1/2 shorter then the Mustang Ford
piece. Can I use it? I know I will need to address finding a clutch disc.
which may be a problem as I'm currently running a 10.9" Jeep disc. It may be
hard to locate the proper size 23 spline disc. The Ford input will set me
back another
$90 which I want to avoid. I can't find a used one as it is an 83-84 only
piece with 24teeth. It has been discontinued. I can use a later model
24tooth input but again another $90.
I'm not sure at this point what is going to be costlier.
I'm thinking I may sell off the Chevy input as there seems to be some demand
for it and then buy a new Ford input.
I priced a new aftermarket cluster at $95 plus shipping. That is the main
reason I'm buying this second gear package. to get the New Ford cluster as
it is new OEM Ford and not an aftermarket replacement. This will giveme two
sets of gears to pick from and three sets of synchroniser assemblys to
choose from.
I'm figuring to have the close ratio trans I want for slightly less then
$400, even cheaper if I decide to sell of the remains.
Not a bad deal. Non World class, but I'm not real impressed with the whole
world class thing. I drove my 84 Mustang GT and was never unhappy with its
trans!
