Re: GM Adapter from 72 Commando- Which GM Trans will work?

The adapter uses the old Buick Nailhead TH-400, NOT the newer BOP model. That trans was referred to as the "universal" or "export" model also. It was sold to foreign companies who either used an adapter or cast their blocks to fit. GM stopped making this trans bolt pattern in the mid 70s, I think. You probably need to get the Commando tranny and convert it to rear drive. All parts swap with a regular TH-400 except the case/bell housing. Wouldn't be difficult to find/swap an output and housing from a newer unit. To use a 700R4 or "normal" TH-400 you need to talk to Advance Adpaters.
