A: Please note that early 4 cyl AMCs used carbs, then TBI till '91 when they went to MPFI. The TBI system is pretty simple (I still have the TBI box and maybe even the harness from a wrecked but running 4 cyl '87 MJ 4x4 I parted) You need a trans with the hole for the crank position sensor and the correct flexplate. (I just happen to have the Renix 4 cyl flexplate and a "core" 904 auto from a 4x4 I bought for a project Rambler that fizzled out due to my health issues in '02) From: farna@xxxxxxx Subject: Re: Found Eagle Kammback To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <ADVANCES62FRaqbC8wS0000014c@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sounds to me like it's worth no more than $500 UNLESS the interior is in pristine condition (not likely!). The Kammback is the least seen Eagle body style, and the SX/4 (Spirit based Eagle) was only made three years. It is seen as a "future collectable" by Hemmings, but they really referring to the sporty looking hatch back. If you're interested ina car that will need a complete going through and can get it for $500 or less it would be a good project. The 2.5L is likely the GM engine, which can be easily upgraded to EFI and with other goodies from the junk yard. I think the late model cross flow head will fit, but would require reconfiguring the exhaust (so if the exhaust system needs replacing...). The crank fired ignition won't work with it as that uses a different block and crank, and that block won't fit a rear drive vehicle. If it's an 83 it might have a Jeep 2.5L, which can be upgraded to EFI easily but that's about all (but what else would you need -- an MPI Jeep 2.5L! head an intake would boost power significantly!). Bear in mind that the GM 2.5L used in AMCs has the small block Chevy bolt pattern for the trans but the Jeep and all 84+ GM 2.5L engines use the small Chevy pattern used on fours, small V-6's, and a few small V-8s (4.1-4.5 Cadillac come to mind, not sure what else).
