Tom I can understand your problems with the plastic interior parts on your Hornet. My 74 original Hatchback has spent it's whole 31 years in the same garage so when I did that interior 3-4 years ago it only had some stress cracks to repair but no warpage or UV damage. My other Hornet I am working on now I bought 1 1/2 years ago and it spent it's first 20-25 years in Florida before comeing to N.Y. The interior was toast with parts broken, missing and just to far gone to repair. The door panels were so water damaged the crubled when I removed them. There are no AMC's in any yards in the area around N.Y. City so I collected plastic interior parts from all over the country. It took me over a year to reair, collect and refinish all the parts. I am pulling the original headliner today and dye it with SEM. This is in mint condition. I also had some small areas of the sail panels that the surface plastic had become powdery like yours. A wire brush and a good cleaning and they look ! fine. I dusted the final coat of black to give a rough finish and hide the arear where the grain in the plastic is partially gone. With 2 coats of SEM semi-gloss over the 3 coats of black they look almost like new. The bad winter and poor health has slowed me down. I was hopeing for a May 1'st complpetion date with everything done but the seats, but it looks more like a late June or early July date. The seats are the only thing I am sending out to be done. Yours looks like it is comeing along nicely. I'll be glad when tha tan baby poop interior with the leisure suit seat inserts is gone.
