Just FYI, it's still on the front page of the NY Times online, in the AUTOMOBILE section. One of the better 'lightweight' articles on AMC, it's getting a lot of exposure.
I think it did a good job of summarizing AMC, left them in a positive light (esp. these days when car makers are all copying each others dull, repetitive designs), made them an underdog (always popular in the U.S.), and overall makes AMC sound pretty innovative and bold. Not bad for a few hundred words.
And other than the one picture of "WAYNE'S WORLD", no AMC jokes and no repeating all the old "ugly" remarks.
The author, John Matras, should be thanked for this contribution. I couldn't find any way to contact him.
"Most of us remember only the wacky Gremlins and Pacers, but American Motors produced many terrific designs before its demise."
