Well, that's what I was thinking -- something hit it from above. If you have plenty time one day you might pull it and see if the chamber is cracked (shouldn't be). An L-head head can be difficult to pull if it's been on a long time though. I had to use a steel wedge and 2# shop hammer to work one off once! I think it was corrosion around the studs that caused the problem. Soak them with trans fluid or penetrating oil for an hour or so before trying to pull. Might not be worth the hour it would take to get it off since it needs welding. I would, but only if it looks like it can be welded then ground down so that the repair isn't to noticeable. Not to hide it from a potential buyer, but just to look good. On April 4, 2005 Tom Jennings wrote: > On Mon, 4 Apr 2005 farna@xxxxxxx wrote: > > > How bad a hole in the head? Just in the outer part, or all the way through? If it's just in the outer water jacket and not through a combustion chamber I'd go back and get it! Should be an aluminum head?? It can be welded easy enough, then ground down to look almost like new. The 2V heads are very hard to find as they were only made for a couple years. > > Iron head, the hole was about 3" square, away from the valves.
