RE: Headlight Knob

I'm trying to remove the facia from my Donohue so I can get to the crash pad
screws and I can't get the headlight knob off. I don't want to break it so
I'm asking if there is a trick to get this off.

Dan,

There is a small button on the bottom of the switch mechanism. This is the release catch. Push it in (towards the body of the switch) while pulling out the knob. You'll feel both detents of the park light and headlight on positions, but the knob should keep come all the way out after that. You may have to fiddle a bit, I've found it to be a bit troublesome on occasion, especially if the knob hasn't been released in a couple of decades.

To replace the knob, simply put it back into the switch and push. You'll again feel both detents and the knob will lock itself in.

However, you may not need to remove the knob. I checked the instrument cluster facia on my Javelin ('69) and the headlight and wiper switches are behind it, mounted directly to the dashboard. You can remove the cover with both of these knobs in place. It may be different in a '70, I'm not sure.

Good luck,
