Tom - the above is the Data I gleaned
off www.google.com .
The A-999 is :
RWD = Rear Wheel Drive
4X4 = comes with a transfer case
This is a non-electric trans. as
it doesn't have an 'E', say 32RE -
instead it has the H being Hydraulic
operation.
THen there's this!
The A-999 of newer vintage is a much
refined item over the old 904s and comes
with HD parts whereas the 904 is very
light weight.
True... but I'll have a 258 with 1bbl or 2bbl and 2" exhaust. THe
hot cam will come out and stock or "RV" go in, so even a stock 904
should be plenty strong. The rebuilder suggested solid 2nd-gear
band and other changes, I'll talk it over with him regarding $$$.
That said, there is a goodly stock of A-999 transmissions
with low mileage on them - just do the contacting and
speak with the yard. Many of the yards have been
with www.car-parts.com for years - so ask about
any 90 day etc. return policies up front.
OK, I'll ask around about this then before I go charging off...
Thanks for the info!
