Tom, do it your self, its not that hard, and allot more fun. Once you do it you won't be afraid of breaking your tranny anymore.
I hadn't actually considered that! I'l think about it, but part of my problem is I'm bogged down, and the rebuilder will complete the job in one week and I'll get a sealed installable trans. From waht I've read there's a bunch of odd tools needed. Between getting parts and tools and the time to rebuild it, it'll be summer.
I should do one though. It's the last area of car technics unexplored for me. (Well, never set up ring & pinion either).
Most Tranny shops will rebuild the converter for less than $100.00, (and most of them only run high temp oil through them for cleaning, Check to see if they have the cutting machine to cut them open, clean, repair, and then rewield then.)
I will ask about this. I don't have a converter here, so I'll have to buy one.
I'm not exactly rebuilding/restifying a car; what I have is a basket case rolling chassis with a lot of added parts! It's not a sensible project, but I seem to specialize in foolish projects :-)
