Re: 83 Spirit stalling problem

A: Sounds like the lockup converter is engaging just off idle. Had the same
trouble with the last Eagle I had. I was going to just block off the tube on
the valve body for the lockup and see if that cured it. (it's like letting
off the clutch while idling) It could be the converter going bad, but I
figure the valve body is easier to check first.

Just confirmed the fol prob with my daughters car and
can't find anything in the TSM. She said the problem
started a couple of days ago. This is a 258, auto
with BBD carb and all pollution equip intact.
-car starts right up and will idle in park and neutral
just fine.
-Putting the car in drive results in a stall.
-It doesn't happen immediately but it is pretty much
w/o warning (ie I started the car, put it in D with
brake on and it was fine for anywhere from 3-10 sec
and would just quit).
-It will also stall out coasting up to a stop sign or
light
-Engine starts right up after stalling
-If it's shifted immediately into D from N and gas
applied it will not stall out
-Runs and shifts fine in normal traffic
Suggestions?
Thanks.
