Bob, Could you please post this on your site: To answer questions on the AMX400, George Barris, who is considered the KING of customizing because he initially started the move back in the 40s, was hired by AMC in the 60s to do concept cars for them. While employed by AMC, George Barris was given two cars by Dick Teague, a Javelin and an AMX. The AMX400, was built from that car. It was lowered, chopped, lengthened 15'' in the front and 8" in the rear, fitted with side pipes and louvers and painted by Joe Baylon, who invented candy paint. Every exterior panel on the AMX400 is modified, and when restored last year, nearly all the body work was found to be intact. Some hate it, but most love it but it is important for all to understand the historical significance of this car. Once completed, it was used in the Banacek TV series and then toured the country as an ISCA (International show car association) circuit show car. From there it spent time in the Nags Head museum in the Carolinas and at one point was part of the Domino's pizza car collection. I'm still putting the cars history together and would appreciate any information that may be out there. Since restoration, the AMX400 has been to the AMC 50th anniversary show in Kenosha, the Woodward Ave. cruise, the Detroit Autorama and several other shows. With only 3,300 correct original miles on the clock, it remains the most photographed AMX in the world. Wherever this car goes, AMC history goes with it. There are many sites on line with reference to the car, with most in English, but some in French and German. Responses are welcome at nymeteddy@xxxxxxx (Mike.) Thank you Bob, and it was nice seeing you again in Detroit. Mike Geary/AMX400
