Douglas,
THANK YOU for having the spirit to stand up and tell your version of
''the state of the AMC Club hobby.'' I will agree will about 95 % of
what you posted. I have tried to explain this mess we have here before,
but I did not do as fine a job as you have done. I especially like how
you try to explain the Age/Generation gap between those of us that
''lived'' thru the mess, and those that did not.
Some of what has gone on has indeed harmed the AMC hobby as a whole. And
with respect to that I want to add more tro what you have said about
clubs. It is AMC, and club related, but it is also ''for the good of the
hobby'' related as well.
Vendors!!!!!!!!
A lot of newcomers don't know what is real and what is fake in the AMC
hobby. And in fact, because many oldsters in the hobby have ''lurked''
as you have for 10 years, many are just not aware of the same type
''behind the scenes'' crap that is played out in the unseen world of AMC
vendors. There is a LOT of underhanded crap that has been pulled over
the years, and much of it is still going on. There are also ''sham''
vendors that simply decide to buy parts and jack up the price and make
spare money. Some are at least honest enogh not to adopt a business
name, but the hobby is full of long time ILLEGITIMATE businesses. So far
no one at a National Club level has decided their club will support
ETHICS in business and require that Anyone advertising as a biusiness
prove they really are. I can't advertose anywhere in an automotive
related magazine and not provide proof of a business.
What all of this Underhanded CLUB and VENDOR business stacks up to for
the AMC hobby is Problems. Problems trying to GROW the hobby.
As you mentioned Douglas, Many old timers have gone by the wayside.
Dropped out, or passed away. And many also will not ''donate'' their
time or wisdom in this modern age of computers because theyt see the
constant bashing by ''those that DON'T KNOW'' tpward those that DO KNOW,
and try to share. However much of this type crap is solely due to a
comunications misunderstanding because a person cannot write in readable
words his voice inflection, or his body language. This leads to mis
understanding of intent and a big flame war starts. Humans being what we
are usually fight to the death.
At any rate Douglas, Thanks for the comments.
Regards,
Randy Guynn
