Oil line modification

Gary,

I agree with Frank. It looks like vinyl or nylon high pressure hose and
definitely has high pressure ends on it. The thing I would be more
concerned with using it is how high off of the valley it sits. I doubt
you would be able to use an intake like an Airgap without changing it. We
run a 90 degree AN fitting with stainless steel braided line to hug the
block without restricting oil flow. You could always change it once you
got it home as that would not stop me from buying it. The part that does
concern me slightly is the deck surface on the one side looks to have some
rust that has pitted into the surface from the cylinder to the outer
section of the block. If what I can see from the pictures it correct, you
will most likely need to surface the block to get a proper seal especially
if the compression is up around what he states. Second concern would be
the compression without the extra head bolts or an O-ring. At 11:1, you
are questionable, at 12:1 I wouldn't run it without one or both. Judging
by what I can see, I would look at this engine as you are going to need to
take it apart to make sure of what you have. If you are getting enough
with it to make it a deal you can live with, buy it. Get it home,
disassemble the engine and clean everything. Inspect the parts and check
all your clearances. Calculate the compression and make the modifications
to the block if needed before you re-assemble it. If that rust on the
deck surface is there, have your machine shop surface the deck first. This
way you know you will have a good engine that is not going to give you
trouble.

Gary, it looks like a vinyl covered high pressure hose. The hose itself
should have some writing about what temp range it's good for on it. It
should be fine up to around 300 degrees, which is more than enough.

I am contemplating buying this 390 for my SC/Rambler and have a question
about the oil line modification. When looking at the picture of the
modification, it sure looks like it is made of a garden hose type
material.
Would this hold up to the heat of the engine. I have tried to email the
seller but no response yet. This would be a great pickup for me as my
family
and I are going out to Vegas in April and I can crate it myself and get it
shipped back to the east coast. Thanks in advance.
