connecting rod clearence

I'am getting ready to build another experimental engine using ford rods and GM pistons. My question is rod side clearence, is .019/.020 to much. I can use a scraper if nessary to keep oil from cylinders. Engine is for bracket racing only, not a every day driver. Please give me your input about clearences.
My first experiment turned out pretty good. Built a 304 using 258 pistons turned around. Engine runs great and gained a little compression over stock doing this.
Thank you: Paul Lussmyer
