I've been following this thread with considerable interest. I have built quite a few 401 AMC's with 2.100 inch rod journals, .927 pins and aluminum rods and it makes for a great combination. If you don't increase the stroke, the engine will internally balance with no Mallory metal, the load on the main bearings is reduced considerably and the crank will last about 3 times as long before cracks start to show up. However, I do not recommend running "Chevy" rods as the offset between cylinders is different and the rod will not end up in the middle of the wrist pin. Have your rod supplier (I use GRP) correct the offset for you when they build the rods. The rods I use look like a 6" SBC rod but they are correct for an AMC.
