John; this topic was discussed quite a bit awile ago. I believe the AMC 20 is real close to the Chryco 8 3/4 but I might be wrong there. Basically the weak spot is in the two piece axle. The bare hub was pressed onto the axle at the factory, then a big ol' nut held everything together. When new it was tough, but 30 years of abuse and/or neglect take their toll. You should retighten the nut (250 lbs) to be sure. Some people have welded the hub to the axle (not recommended unless you know what you are doing). The best way to go is to get one piece axles. I bought a set from Strange a while ago and notice that some are still out there. Check with your local differential or 4x4 shop. One piece axles, new Posi unit and good set of bearings and the AMC 20 will do for all but the most radical of thrashings. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
