I agree 100%, Randy. I hate what the magazine industry has become. And
when I come to dislike a company, I go out of my way to NOT patronize
them. I.E., those stupid taco bell TV ads with the chihuahua a while
back forced me to never eat there again (not a bad choice regardless).
Similarily, Primedia pissed me off one day so I was determined to not
buy a rag put out by them. I soon found that to be extremely difficult
to accomplish, due to their monopoly status after buying out Peterson
Publishing. I resolved to just not buy any rags at all.
The reason they pissed me off is this: A couple years ago, I had heard
of an AMC article (I forget now which one and in which rag) in the March
issue and wanted to go get it. At the time, it was still February, so I
didn't think twice about rushing down to the bookstore right then. A
day passed and while I was out I decided to stop in and get that issue.
Much to my dismay, the April issue was out even though it was still
Feb! No sign of March anywhere. And I tried going to their website and
ordering the March issue in their archives, but they want almost twice
the newsstand price and 6-8 weeks to get it to me! I hate the fact that
all magazines post-date their issues, but Primedia seems to be the
worst, post-dating their issues over two months ahead. How that all got
started is beyond me. They should put out the March edition on the 1st
of March! One of my pet peeves I guess. Ok, rant over.

Also, this is at least the 3rd run for this story. Once pklus reruns
on T,.V., once in Hot Rod, now in Car Craft. The story is over 2 years
old. Since Prime Media has taken over the entire magazine industry,
they have gotten real bad about re-hashing old stories. The other AMC
500 h.p. article has been in 4 different magazines in about 3 years.
Two questions come to mind,#1, How many times are they going to run
the Same story they already bought and paid for, while charging the
advertisers more and more money?? J.P. Magazines ad rates have
QUADRUPPLED since Prime Media took over. The ad rate went sky high,
but the advertisers are paying for RERUNS?? #2, since there Are other
newer AMC car and engine builfds, why not do some Fresh material and
Pay for another New story with all the money you are now raking in ??
Opps, #3, How many times [if you are a subscriber to many magazines]
do you as a buyer want to be sold the same story over and over?? opps
again, one more question #4, If the price on the cover of every
magazine you buy went up FOUR times, How many would you be buying and
would you want re-runs for that price???
I personally feel Prime Media has not helped the Car Hobby as much as
it has helped its' self to some huge profits over what the magazine
industry once was.For the kind of increases they have had, we sure
should not be seeing re-hashed articles in every magazine they have
bought. They own over 80% of the market.
