Re: Anyone ever re-sleeve a 401?

You'll have to take the block to a machine shop and see if it can be sleeved. If the hole is just in the inner cylinder and there are no cracks in the outside of the water jacket it should be sleevable. It will also depend on how close to the bottom or top of the cylinder the hole and extending cracks are. The shop will check the block for cracks for you. It will cost around $100 for the checking, should be a little under. That's if you take a bare block to them and make it easy. Still, it should be worth the effort. If it's obvious the shop won't charge much, maybe not anything -- depends on how obvious it is to them that it isn't worth fixing. Check with another shop if one says no. They may just not want to risk it (warranty work later) or not realize how hard the block is to find. I suspect that none will give you a warranty, but it should be safe and not leak coolant with a standard pressed in sleeve.
