Randy, I was the one who resurrected the model 20 rear end discussion but I'm still not entirely clear on how it all works. From your post you said there are series 2 & 3 carriers for passenger cars. I'm not sure what that equates to but, from my 74 TSM I would guess the 2 different axle sizes (8-7/8 and 7-9/16) as you said the carriers are physically different. I posted my question on the AMC Forum also and one of the listers compared carriers from a 2.87 and 3.15 rear end and said they were exactly the same size (both are listed for the 8-7/8 axle). My 74 TSM lists 2.87, 3.15, 3.54 and 3.91 ratios as being in the 8-7/8 axle and 2.73, 3.08, 3.31 and 3.58 ratios as being in the 7-9/16 axle. Unless the different carriers (series 2 & 3) can be used in the different axles, a manufacturer who says his gears will fit 3.08 and above should fit in both axles and on both carriers. It would seem to me that the fit is based more on the carrier and/or axle than the ratio. Sure wish I had the different carriers and gears to look at to clear up my confusion. Guess my problem is the gears on Ebay I'm looking to buy (Richmond 3.54) and replace my 2.87 gears (74 AMX with 8-7/8 axle) I can't seem to find on the Richmond website to verify that they will or won't fit. I counted the teeth on the ring gear in the pic and they are the same (39) as the AMC listing in the TSM. Marty __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
