I have not spoken with MSD about the tests going on with therir new
Cam/Distributor gear combo. I have been waiting for results from the two
AMCers I set up to test the pieces I was given to test. Well, wether and
Job Shift workk/Hollidays have pushed things nback a little.
The first set in use was put in and has been up and running on a fresh
AMC rebuild with new cam/lifters and timing set. The engine has run now
for close to two weeks. The timing marks are ''rock steady'' when
running with timing light. In case you did not know, Shifting timing
marks under a timing light is always present when the cam/distributor
gears are going away. So, #1 test went great. Real AMC Mechanic did the
work. All oil circuits were right, all assembly was right, gears had no
problems.
I will be passing this info off the my MSD contact next week, and if
Iget report from him on other tests I will post them here.
The second set of gears I hope to have results on by end of January. It
is a hot 401 that made 438 h.p. on dyno late last year. Engine was all
new at the time. Cam was too small. Customer bought two sizes bigger
cam. He found excessive wear on the gears right off the dyno. So, change
of cams, new MSD matched gearset and he is going to re-dyno very soon.
Also on this engine, he originally ran AIR GAP on the Dyno. He is going
to run INDY, and Torker this time. Engine has INDY heads. My prediction
is Bigger cam, Indy intake will get him past 475 h.p.
Not bad for a driver, pump gas AMC.
