I've seen one or two with the bumpers moved in. You eliminate the cushioning effect, but the owners took two flat plates and drilled to fit the cylinder mounts and welded a piece of pipe between them. The bumper itself is pretty sturdy on the 70s cars. The ones on the early 60s are little more than decoration. I rolled my car into a 1.5" diameter bush and it bent the bumper in the middle! The car (63 Classic) couldn't have been going even 2 MPH -- I was pushing it!! I plan on tucking the bumpers on the orange Hornet closer to the body. The front ones are pistons and I plan on elongating the mounting bracket holes to move the bumper closer to the body. The rears don't appear to be pistons but just tubes. Is there a spring or some kind of rebound mechanism inside the tube? I figured I could shorten the tube a few inches to tuck in the rear bumper. > > I believe they are filled with oil and a spring; there's a hole > > with a plug to squirt the oil downward in a collision. > > > . ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
