The White Seal Tech* head gaskets from Corteco have finally made it to
market. The claims are that the white coating aids in cylinder seal.
These are sold as a direct replacement for the common FelPro sandwich
type gaskets. I have yet to install one to see what they crush to upon
torque.
The Corteco is the same nominal thickness as the FelPro. The Corteco has
steel sealing rings around the bores. It too is a sandwitch type gasket.
It has a steel core with the white mottled coating. Also another real
good thing they added to this gasket is an ''hour glass'' shapped piece
of steel between the center two cylinders. This steel piece will help
prevent blown gaskets between the center cylinders
the coating has a fine texture sorta like Splatter paint in a trunk. It
is said to heat up, and flow out to seal any imperfections in head or
block surfaces. They also asre suppossed to Seal the heads, but they are
not suppossed to stick to the heads or block. They advise NO SEALERS AT
ALL< INSTALL DRY.!!!!!!!! They are marked TOP on one side but I rsee no
difference in either side upon first glance over. This coating works well
with the new Aluminum heads as well as cast iron.
Anyway they are about the same cost as FelPro and less than the ROL
gaskets.Other than just looking at the piece and reading the
manufacturers info I cannot tell more. I have a set going out to a
customer this week . It will be a little while before he can tell me
anything about the performance.
I Like that steel center insert, great idea. Detroit gaskets used those
as well. Guess who bought out Detroit?/ How about Corteco!!!!
Proform has also released their All New AMC V8 HEI Delco type
distributor. This is an all new piece it comes ready to run with Cap,
Rotor, & coil in cap. It is like the DUI, only LESS MONEY. You can get
one of these Proforms' for in the $250.00 with shipping range give or
take a few bucks. The DUI is easilt $100.00 more. also it comes with a
brand new distributor gear on it. It is ''different'' from any other AMC
distributor gear I have seen. It has two cast in grooves around the
straight shank end of the gear. I have seen no grooves, and one groove
units from various sources. I have never in over 30 years seen a double
grooved gear. I only mention this becauise some avaible gears do not
meash well with other brands of gears. Since this unit looks different,
I believe it needs looking at closely when installing it.
anyway, Gaskets & distributors are in hand, in stock.
Starting out to be a great AMC parts year already.
