A: You can also hook the EGR pipe from the non-HO header to the newer 4.2L 
carb intake easily (mine lined up when I hooked one into a buddy's FSJ when 
he did a 4.0L head/exhaust swap and we added a Motorcraft 2100 carb to it).

The intake manifold is not open to the exhaust manifold unless you have an
EGR valve. If you have EGR, you can make a block off plate to close it off.
