A: Sounds like the set the rear brakes to drag or something. My old '75 Pacer with a broken rocker would run close to 18 seconds in the 1/4 on 5 cylinders! (3 speed floor shift) IF the Pacer or Gremlin had a 232 with auto and 2.37 gears, it would be a slow runner. What crap! I don't usually get so AMC-defensive, all-riled-up at the Ford-or-Chevy? people, but what a bunch of blithering idiots. A terrible show! They said "ugly" probably 100 times; I can deal with that. Everyone laughing at the funny gremlin, I can deal with that. Openly insulting Teague, multiple times, well he's not around to worry about it. Complaining that a '76 with a smog-strangulated 90hp six is "slow", OK; not mentioning the one with the (admittedly smogg-y) V8 is faster, OK. But the F-ing dim-witted child (who also whined "I hate wiring" -- what a jerk, he and his business getting a free plug on national TV, and he whines about a little wiring problem, boo-f-ing-hoo) PRIED THE GODDAMN GREMLIN DASH CENTER OUT WITH A SCREWDRIVER, stuck the guage cluster in the hole where there was an A/C vent, left the wires running down the front, visible, and ! tore off the entire top dashpad ! And the best they could pull off, with a 258, 4bbl, headers and Clifford or Edelbrock intake, and nitrous for sh*t's sake, was 18 secs? I think my Rambler will do that. I guess we have to maintain the Order of Automotive Things (Ford or Chevy? The world waits with bated breath) no matter what. I thought I had low expectations, but sheesh.
