Re: AMC's in IH trucks....??

258's definitely did make it into the 1/2 ton pickups. I have seen many. IH V8's had distributors in the front too but they stick into the block at a 12 o clock position as opposed to the 10 o clock position of a AMC v8. It is very easy to tell them apart there are so many differences.

PS: there is a 304 AMC AND a 304 IH engine. Other than both having 304 CI. nothing else is the same.

I'm not an expert but I have looked under a lot of
junkyard hoods the last few years. AMC 258 was used
in Scouts (and maybe pickups, but I doubt it) in the
70s and early 80s. AMC 401 was used in anything BUT
Scouts in the 70s. The IHC engines are much more
common (304, 345 and 392) as you would expect. IH V8s
all have the word "international" stamped into their
valve covers. If the valve covers are missing, I
think the IH distributor is located on the back of the
engine. At any rate it is not canted to one side in
the front like the AMC engine.

Anyone know of a net reference link (or other) that
has a listing of what year IH trucks had what AMC
motors?? I walked my favorite yard yesterday to see
what the ol guy crushed last spring (Summertime yard
walks in Arkansas is not my favorite thing, snakes,
chiggers, tics.... no thanks!!!). He pretty muched
raped the AMC's he had there, of all things he saved
the Spirits... A number of IH trucks were not
taken, trucks are not wanted by the crusher boys as
they have little weight to them.. Was wondering if
any motors in these are worth picking up?? Most
trucks would have less compression-able motors
yes??? Worth saving??

Any advice or ridicule is accepted.
