You say; I just don't understand why people think they need to adapt a rear into AMCs. Sell all that slo-par stuff and buy a set of one piece axles for the AMC-20. . THEN You say; When my car goes in the 10's i'll change to a Dana 60 ! My car DOES run in the 10's thank you and I gave one reason for the 8 3/4 choice. Easy gear changes, only a few minutes. The Dana is the same type rear as the AMC and takes a complete gear mesh setup to change. Beside that, it is much heavier. The Dana is very strong as is the Ford 9 inch. There are more 8 3/4 rears around and more of them fit without narrowing. Then; The post about 8.75s being used in dragsters was true back when they spun the tires the whole quarter mile, as soon as the tire tech caught up to the horsepower they changed to stronger rears. (spinning tires don't break rears traction does). A rubber band and any tires did not put those dragsters into the sevens. Power and traction did. (They) changed to stronger rears because stronger rears became AVAILABLE. No corrections are needed for what I said before. Your friend, Gary Walker
