I've got four-year electrical engineering students that quite literally have never used a soldering iron, oscilloscope and can't read an analog meter. Everyone seems to be grinding out cubicle jockeys ("veal-fattening pens" us old timers call 'em), they leave with a big fat student loan debt and a specialist degree to grind out some tiny corner of this year's product. U.S. productivity my ass, they don't even know what they don't have. And everyone wonders why Indian kid engineers build everything using nothing. Good things come to those who get their hands dirty, amen. OK I'll shut up now.
