Re: Ken Siroonian

Joe, thanks to you for adding to my info on renault and the IMSA cars. You have a lot of knowledge on them, and gratefull someone could add to my few facts. I knew there were more details than I could recall, (CRS here I think) and saved me from having to dig thru my stuff to find that. And yes, the GTA were cool cars. As you said, amny of the components were clser to the Euro R-9 version, rather than the AMC Alliance. For instance the seats were not rocker if I recall, and the steering column could not be a tilt one as it had the special column and MOMO steering wheel. These things stuck out in my mind and thanks for your more detailed comments. That was the IMSA program that I recall, and thanks for showing it on ebay. I drove numerous GTA's and convertibles, they were neet, fun to drive, and our target cometitor was the VW GT( rabbitt). Thus, GTA (alliance). Wish I had saved one of those GTA's, they looked great in the black. I think that due to the financial crisis, they!
had to keep spending less on proejcts that would not yield increased sales and profits on the short term, and while they may have appealed to the youth market a bit more, renault was getting bad rep for their quality and engineering, and it was they could do was try to mainatin a sales level on teh bread and butter stuff. Plus I wonder if thee were also safety and emmission considerations of another engine to be sold in low volumes. If i get a chance I may try to find some of those old IMSA GTA and ALPINE materials for a re reread.

Don't get me wrong-- I have 4 GTA's, and they are the definate hit of the Renault USA Production from any year---- they scream, get great mpg.. and handle like a dream on the blacktop, look great in the summer.....

It has Koni shocks, Momo steering wheel, Momo wheels, Renault supplied front springs, rear torsion bars and sway bars. Beyond that it is entirely stock. Engine, rated at 56hp, is still "sealed" by IMSA. Should be eligible for Vintage Car Racing in 4 years
