A: One upgrade I did to my '73 J4000 was a mid '70s Mopar ignition coil. It works well with points and my start ups are much easier when cold now (even better when I changed my dist which was sloppy to the point the points closed if the vac advance was hooked up and I reset the float in my carb) From: AMC74Hornet@xxxxxxxxx Subject: {FORGED?} One Step Foward And One Back To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <ADVANCES62P4SWH6HQJ000012c1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> The one step foward was the installation of an Acell Super Coil to my stock points ign. dist. in my new 74 Hornet. As when I did it on my other 74 25 years ago without touching anything there was a big difference in the performance for the better. And that is even with a dist. that had a non working vacume advance and a questionable wobble in the shaft in this car. The dist. has been replaced now and the car runs really fine. The step backwards is not one in my book but it would be to some. I installed a manual choke like I did in the other Hornet 25+ years ago. I had to make a custom bracket to mount the cable to the carb and since all the dash knobs are billet I cut off the pastic knob and added a billet one. The choke cable pull is mounted next to the vent pull and looks like it was factory with both haveing the billet knobs. After driveing my other Hornet for 30 years (And I still do) I am makeing all the mods that I did over 30 years to the new car and then some like th! e Delco alt. swap. "Doc"
