tranny cooloer. Why not bypass it altogether? Get a heavy duty external
cooler and don't even use the radiator mounted cooler. That's all I use on
my AW-4 (Aisin Warner -- the Japanese division of Borg Warner, though it
might be independent now). I realize the AW-4 is much stronger than the M-44
even though they are related. You could put the Jeep version AW-4 behind
your 304 with no problem, really. Pre 96 models use a separate trans
controller (they are electronically controlled), but you can easily wire up
a manual box with a rotary switch and a couple diodes. That's what I'm
running now -- a semi-automaitc trans I guess you'd have to call it. You put
it in drive, then turn the switch to change gears. It's easy enough I don't
think I'll put an auto controller in!

Actually I'm trying to get a way from the automatic and really, I mean
REALLY don't want to spend any more money on the darn thing. My goal is to
install a mild 401 with the T5 5 speed manual. However because rebuilding a
401 can get expensive and consume time, I want to continue to enjoy driving
my javelin until I have all the pieces for the swap. In order to keep
driving the car I had to rebuild the flippin M44 about two years ago (I've
had the car since May of 1972) and all I really wanted was to find a
flywheel that bolts up to the 304 and hang the T5 on that until I get
everything together for the 401. I do just about have all the stuff I need,
I got disc brakes from a 75 Hornet, the T5, yokes and driveshaft (huge u
joints) from a 92 Mustang 5.0, clutch and brake pedals from a 72 Javelin
(including strut bracket to install clutch linkage), bell housing, z-bar,
linkages, etc. from a 79 Spirit AMX (this car had a 304 but the flywheel is
different on this engine than the 70 and 71 304), I got a 401 from a 76
Wagoneer, and recently bought a flywheel for the 401. I also found a Ford 9"
axle with disc brakes recently and jumped right on that one. I may have to
shorten it but what the heck. Any way I am gettin gcloser to accumulating
the needed parts for the swap, I'M STILL LOOKING FOR A 70 OR 71 FLYWHEEL FOR
A 304 IF ANYONE HAS ONE OUT THERE. I would sure like to test that 5 speed
manual behind the 304 before going to the 401.

Thanks for listening guys, if nothing else it makes me feel better and gets
rid of the daily stress from too much job B.S.

Armand
