Re: [AMC-list] Borg Warner Flash-O-Matic Transmission Question

Mark,

Thanks for your reply. (as copied below) The pickup screen applied without the gasket would only raise up the pickup draw point by the thickness of the gasket which is about 1/16 of an inch (maybe less when compressed down). I think you are right about the gaps (if any) are very small. As long as there is no apparent vacuum or suction issues created or needed by a tight gasket seal, I'm guessing that I am OK. Any other thoughts. I'm holding off proceeding forward until everybody has a chance to comment.

Thanks,

Rich Morgan

How high is the filter, as in how much higher will the trans draw fluid from if it is drawing from the area where the gasket should be? That is the only main thing to worry about as the slight lack of seal around the screen is probably not any larger than the screen holes are. *** Mark ?Li la li Li la la la, li la li?(Paul Simon-The Boxer) ----- Original Message -----

Subject: [AMC-list] Borg Warner Flash-O-Matic Transmission Question
Just did a minor transmission service on my 1967 Marlin with 232-six &
Flash-O-Matic. Replaced the Magnetic Pick-up Screen Filter along with
the Pan Gasket. I get it all buttoned up and torqued perfectly. I
then notice that on the old removed pickup screen there was a cork
gasket in place attached to it. There are four screws that attach
this component in position. The new screen did not include a gasket.
Thus the question is.... is this a vital "must have" gasket? Does
this form a vacuum seal internally? I luckily did not refill with
fluid yet but wonder if I have to redo all of my work so far?
Thanks, Rich Morgan
