Joe,Thanks for your opinion on this question. It sounds like a plan and your reasoning seems very logical. Anything to not have to pull it all apart again is OK by me! I'll see if anyone else jumps in with an opinion to match yours before I make a move.

I suspect that the gasket is there to keep unfiltered oil from bypassing the screen. If, having recently inspected your installation, you don't there is any opportunity for oil to bypass the screen, don't worry about it.
