Another option might be thin birch plywood; that appears to be what the
interior specialists use on some of the cable reality shows.  My son used
Masonite (at my suggestion) several years ago on the door panels of his car,
and over time they warped pretty badly, buckling between the fasteners.
Apparently they had absorbed moisture while in storage.

Hi I have a 1977 Hornet AMX and I keep getting negative comments , at car shows, about the ratty looking cardboard panels in the back hatch area of my car. Has anybody found a better material to replace them with? Mine do look beat up and cheap.
