What a drag about your LA visit for an engine that was misrepresented. Oh well, that's how the ole AMC ball bounces I guess. Question for you or the list, if I ever win the Lotto and have some extra cash, and wanted to have my tired 304 overhauled, what kind of costs would I be looking at? Currently it doesn't smoke when driving but does smoke considerably at start up. I was told new valve seals would remedy that. Is it worth the effort to rebuild it? Of course I have no skills so I'd have to find a knowledgeable shop or person to do it. We all know that. My 76 Gremlin had a 232 from the factory and I had the block machined and bored 0.030 oversize, bought all the other new parts, but did not put it back together before I found a factory rebuilt short block in Los Angeles that I thought was a 258. I drove to LA and bought it only to find out that it was another 232 so I decided to go ahead and use it. Good to hear from you.
