Yeah, it is MUCH easier to install the strut rods with the car sitting on its wheels. Everything lines up much better. Btw; you should be using the Moog style "improved-design" strut bushings (unless you need it to be "original-looking"). They are the ones with the built-in washers and sleeves. Anything else won't last long. The part number is K3091.
