" work as long as you don't try to use it like a performance transmission.

if you drive your car a lot in stop-and-go, you'll love the t14 -
synchro 1st!

i column-shifted my t14, though it was originally a floor-shift setup.
i had problems with the pre-saginaw columns on my '66 americans but
the saginaw on my '68 was much better. had to adjust one of the
shifter rods since the levers are farther apart than on the t96 but
that was all.

the t14 was the base tranny '72-4 or so. many would've been column
shifted originally.

since the t14 didn't exist before '68, '66-7 232s got the t96. iirc
when it appeared in the '65 american, the 232 was auto-only.

i don't know what trannies the 232 came with in big cars '64-7 but i
vaguely recall seeing a '67 marlin for sale from az that had a 232,
t86, and o/d. sure wish i had that car...

update: just checked my '67 10-50-80 tsm - trannies aren't named, but
pics for the 232 one match a t96; for the 290, a t86, and the hd sec
says this was available with the 232.

this would've been the base setup in a '67 marlin.

the t5 would definitely be a job, but i mentioned it because it looks
possible, and you did mention performance.
